Detailed description

8-Bit Retro Stamina Watch Face turns time into a clean arcade HUD. Made by ADHD, it keeps the essentials visible without turning your wrist into a dashboard.

Requires Wear OS 4 or newer. Custom complications are not supported—the layout is intentionally fixed and simple.

Time you can see

- Four horizontal bars show the current four-hour block.
- Red shows what’s gone. Green shows what remains. At the line between them, a tiny fighter winds up and fires into the time ahead, blasting it away minute by minute.
- Ten-minute cells add detail to the active hour. The exact digital time appears below by default and can be hidden.

Useful by design. Minimal on purpose.

No tiny dashboard to build and no complication slots to arrange. Three fixed arcade readouts keep the useful stuff exactly where you expect it:

- 1UP shows the step count supplied by your watch.
- CREDIT shows battery percentage. At 10% or less, it changes to INSERT COIN.
- ROUND shows the day of the month.

Time, steps, battery and date—that’s it. Everything is easy to scan, and every value is read locally from Wear OS. There is no account, advertising, analytics or network service.

Four simple controls

- Use 24-hour time is on by default; switch it off for 12-hour time with AM/PM.
- Digital clock is shown by default and can be hidden.
- Motion animates the fighter and the low-battery INSERT COIN warning; switch it off for a calmer view.
- CRT adds or removes the classic scanline look.

In always-on ambient mode, the face is static, dimmed and CRT-free, while respecting your selected time format and digital-clock visibility.

Why time gets a stamina bar

1. It makes the passing hour visible. A systematic review and meta-analysis by Metcalfe et al. (2024) found measurable group-level differences on time-perception tasks in ADHD. Stamina keeps elapsed and remaining time in view together—a design idea that may be useful for people who experience time blindness. This specific watch face has not been clinically tested.

2. Progress can be seen, not just counted. In controlled smartwatch studies, Blascheck et al. (2023) found that visual progress displays were read faster and more accurately than percentage text. Linear bars also had a small efficiency advantage over radial bars, although radial displays were preferred for their appearance.
