Detailed description

Buzz Me Please turns your phones into quiz buzzers. One host, a handful of players, and whoever presses first takes it — down to the millisecond.

No server, no account, no sign-up: everything runs over your local Wi-Fi. Just be in the same room, on the same network.

HOW IT WORKS

The host creates a room: a five-letter code appears at the top of the screen. The others type it in — or join with a single tap, since the room shows up on its own in the list of games found on Wi-Fi.

On "GO!", a 3 · 2 · 1 countdown fires on every phone at the same instant, then the buzzers turn green. On the players' phones the screen clears for the round: nothing left but the buzzer, large, under the thumb.

A VERDICT THAT HOLDS UP

Separating two reflexes a few milliseconds apart takes three precautions, and all three are here:

• We measure the press, not the phone. The time is read from the touch event itself, before anything is drawn: how busy the device is never ends up in your reaction time.

• Everyone on one clock. Each phone continuously syncs to the host's, NTP-style, and keeps only the sample least disturbed by the network.

• Photo finish. The lockout fires immediately, but a buzz already in flight is still accepted for a short window: the best time wins, never the packet that happened to arrive first.

The gap between players is shown, along with its margin of error. Below that margin, two reflexes are tied — the host decides.

THE HOST'S DESK

• The full board: state of every buzzer, exact time of the buzz, reaction time, gap to the best, connection quality.
• Points: +1, +3, −1 per player, reset for everyone.
• The floor: after a winning buzz, a single buzzer stays green. Wrong answer? The floor moves to the next in line, with a sound for both of them.
• Knock-outs: black buzzer in one tap, back in the game whenever you decide.
• Hidden scores: each player only sees their own, you keep the full table.
• The soundboard: nine pads to set up before the game from around thirty effects — correct answer, wrong answer, car horn, ticking clock, applause, rimshot… Your selection is kept from one game to the next.
• Handing over: give the host role to another player without anyone leaving the room. Scores, statuses and the current round all follow.

TWO WAYS TO PLAY

Duel: the first to buzz locks everyone else out. The mode for questions with a single answer.

Race: everyone buzzes and you get a full ranking. Handy for a tie-break or a speed round.

GOOD TO KNOW

• Every phone must be on the same Wi-Fi network.
• A dropout loses no one: reconnection is automatic, and everyone gets their score and status back.
• Built-in tutorial, opened on first launch.
• English and French: the app follows the phone's language, and the choice can be forced in the settings.
• No ads, no purchases.

For quiz nights, family revision, blind tests and every game where it matters who pressed first.
