Wagasa Japanese Watch Face

Wagasa puts you underneath a Japanese paper parasol. You are looking straight up into the canopy: washi paper lit from behind, bamboo ribs radiating out from the hub, and the kagari-ito silk lacing wound around the centre.

🎋 THE RIBS ARE THE HOURS
Twelve of the bamboo ribs fall exactly on the hour positions, so the parasol's own frame is the chapter ring. Nothing is printed on top of it.

🧵 THE KAGARI-ITO
Around the rokuro hub sits the silk lacing that holds a real wagasa together — indigo, cream and green threads crossing in a dense rosette. It is the most intricate thing on the dial and it is the reason the centre is worth looking at.

🎨 EIGHT PAPERS
Shu vermilion, Ai indigo, Moegi young green, Kakishibu persimmon, Murasaki purple, Asagi pale blue, Shiro undyed washi, and Sumi charcoal. Only the paper is dyed — the bamboo ribs and the silk keep their own colour, the way a real parasol does.

🖋️ THREE HAND COLOURS
Kurogane blackened steel, Shirogane polished silver, or Shu vermilion lacquer. A fine gold sweep second runs over all of them.

🗓️ DAY AND DATE, OR NOT
A brass-bezelled aperture at three o'clock shows the day and the date. Turn it off and the paper is unbroken.

🔢 ADD A DIGITAL TIME
An optional h:mm above the hub, alongside the hands rather than instead of them. Off by default.

⌚ THREE DATA SLOTS, YOUR SIZE
Three slots below the hub, showing steps, heart rate and battery by default and changeable to other information you prefer. Choose Large, Medium, Small, or hide them entirely — hidden, the shaded side of the canopy is all that is left.

🌙 AMBIENT MODE
Optimised for always-on display: black, the twelve ribs restated as bone marks, and the hour and minute in white. The sweep second stops while the screen is dimmed.
